With all of the chatter about Bristol Palin’s debut on Dancing with the Stars, I decided to share a different perspective about the saga of her on-again-off-again boyfriend, Levi Johnston. Way down deep down inside, is Levi Johnston a good kid? Perhaps. Is he a loving and caring father? From all appearances, yes he probably is. How, then, did an otherwise loving and caring young man get caught up in a bitter war of words? He became a pawn of the liberal media and entertainment industry.
In 2009, when things turned sour in the relationship between Levi and Bristol, Levi began to speak out about the Palins. The media and the entertainment industry had a golden opportunity dropped in their collective lap. Desperately hoping that Levi would have negative things to say, these folks set up several high-profile interviews. Levi gave them exactly what they wanted: negative comments about Sarah Palin and her family. The more Levi spoke out against the Palins, the bigger star he became.
That was no accident. There is no doubt in my mind that the media and entertainment industry purposely elevated Levi Johnston solely based on his negative comments about Sarah Palin and her family. Consumed with their agenda, it was not enough for those people to claim victory in November 2008. They took it upon themselves to make sure the attacks on Palin continued after the election was over.
What if things were different? What it Levi Johnston would have had positive things to say? What if he would have described Sarah Palin as a loving and caring mother who worked hard to promote a dynamic vision for America? That young man would be absolutely destroyed. If Levi Johnston would have had positive things to say about Sarah Palin and her family, would the media and entertainment industry have set up high profile interviews for him? No. Would they have made him a star? No. Would they want to take naked pictures of him? No. I guarantee you that none of those things would have happened. He would be torn down and destroyed. However, because he was providing sound bites that the left wanted to hear, he was a superhero.
Things changed in July 2010. Levi made a complete 180 degree turn saying, “Last year, after Bristol and I broke up, I was unhappy and a little angry. Unfortunately, against my better judgment, I publicly said things about the Palins that were not completely true. I have already privately apologized to Todd and Sarah. Since my statements were public, I owe it to the Palins to publicly apologize.” Was the media salivating over him anymore? No. As soon as the negative comments about the Palin family stopped, so did the Golden Boy status. Forgive me for not being surprised.
Since that time, Levi has taken back his apology, saying, “The only thing I wish I wouldn’t have done is put out that apology ’cause it kind of makes me sound like a liar. I’ve never lied about anything.” Is Levi Johnston a liar? Maybe, I am not sure. That is not the issue. The issue is that he is a pawn. He has ridden the anti-Palin gravy train. He has learned by now that anti-Palin comments equal fame and pro/neutral Palin comments equal no fame. What he may not realize, however, is that the media and the entertainment industry do not love Levi Johnston the man, they love Levi Johnston the pawn.
Where will the Levi Johnston saga go from here? That much is uncertain. What is certain, however, is that if he says more negative things about Sarah Palin and her family, you will know right away, because it will intentionally be made headline news.
