Military personnel from Indiana and around the country strapped on 25-pound rucksacks and turned their face to the cold winds April 2 as they stepped off for Purdue Army ROTC’s first Norwegian Ruck March: An 18.6 mile march around Purdue’s campus and the city of West Lafayette. Participants from Indiana, Michigan, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia and Arizona attended to complete this challenge. This is the first year Purdue has hosted the event.
The race is based on a qualification course for the Norwegian Army. Cadets and other personnel who finished were awarded a Norwegian Foot March badge. Many cadets carried canned food items in their packs, which were donated to local charities at the end of the race.
