Republicans Eat Their Own
Grow Big and Strong
Those crazy conservatives are at it again! Dismantling the Republican Party from the ground up, foaming at the mouth as they sink their teeth into a juicy moderate or RINO (Republican In Name Only). The conservative mafia is rooting out the politicians that do not fit their needs, even if that means they are Republican. So, what seems to be the problem? The answer to that question is simply that there is no problem, or at least there should not be. Yet the liberal media and some elected officials believe otherwise. They continue to paint an ugly portrait of the grassroots movement as if to control the message or to make the efforts of these people seem worthless.
I am, of course, referring to the recent Tea Party movements, as well as the NY-23 elections. It is not that the Republican Party is eating it’s own. It is, however, about the people and how they identify themselves. Just because you are a Republican does not make you a conservative. And just because you are conservative does not make you a Republican. Most true conservatives would agree that the Republican Party is a vehicle, and not a way of life. Although the Republican Party has typically been more on the side of conservative values, we do not live and die by the party.
We are individuals that hold principles and values to the highest of priorities. We cherish independence, our God-given abilities and our aptitude to decide what is best for ourselves, rather than having the government tell us what to do and how we can do it. We believe in the free market system and competition. We believe that if you work hard, you can get the things you want. We believe in life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness knowing that the results are different for everyone. Whether you are conservative or liberal, Democrat or Republican, the government works for us and not the other way around! We the people of this free nation decide our own fate; the politicians have the privilege of representing us.
In today’s America, politicians have lost sight of their responsibilities as elected officials, and Americans will not stand for it any longer. On September 12, nearly 2 million Americans gathered in Washington D.C. to express their concern about the carelessness and corruption taking place in our nation’s capitol. Regular people: black and white, young and old, Democrats and Republicans; they all came together with common values and principles in mind to remind the politicians that it’s the people that matter and not the special interest groups.
Conservatives especially had their voices heard in early November during the NY-23 elections. It was an exciting race that came down to three: Bill Owens (D), Dede Scozzafava (R), and Doug Hoffman (C). No, to any of you smart liberals out there who may be reading The Purdue Review, the “C” does not stand for Communist party; it means conservative. As it turns out, Hoffman lost the race, but it is the story behind it that is truly telling. Hoffman was running as the conservative candidate, to represent the people, with conservative values like those previously mentioned. Scozzafava, the Republican candidate, ran a more moderate campaign, so moderate that she lost many supporters to Hoffman. When it seemed that the race was out of her hands, she “bowed out for the party.”
Instead of doing the “Republican” thing and backing the conservative candidate( like top Republicans John Boehner, Eric Cantor and Pete Sessions did), Scozzafava showed her true colors and backed the Democrat. If the people in New York’s 23rd District were to vote based strictly on party rather than values, the people would not get the things that they truly need or desire, and the corruption and special interests would continue to flourish.
It is not that “Republicans” are eating their own. The fact of the matter is that conservatives and “average” Americans work too hard to be toyed with. Conservatives are usually Republicans and not liberal or Democrat for a reason. They do not have the same ideals. Yet, slowly but surely, it seems that the Republican Party is slipping away from its conservative morals. Conservatives and members of the Republican Party have been pushed to the limit and have decided that enough is enough. They will not sit idly by and let their party, the one thing that can represent their voices, abandon them for popularity. They want people who will say what they mean and mean what they say.
